“In the child – and even in the infant – there is, by nature, an inexhaustible and ever increasing interest in the world and in himself.  It is not necessary to ‘entertain’ an infant.  He does not need complicated toys.  For hours, days, and even for months he plays with the most simple of objects which he happens to get hold of.  He plays with these simple objects with the greatest attention, interest and pleasure.”  --From Mary Alice Roche’s summary of Magda Gerber’s Peaceful Babies—Contented Mothers in the Sensory Awareness Foundation’s Bulletin #14

I've been having way too much fun finding materials.  With a slue of baskets from goodwill, I've started creating all sorts of ideas for provocations.  I've been exploring outside (and researching natural materials appropriate for infant exploration), learning how to sew and felt, and purchasing items that I've seen children investigate in interesting ways.

I found handmade things from etsy.com (specifics available upon request), German toys from Toys in Style (store closing sale), various toys from more German companies, and more keeps coming every day.  Napkin rings, small kitchen containers, and 100% cotton napkins have been my latest finds.  And some friends have donated a variety of toys and books as well.

We've also been tinkering with woodworking.  The goal is to make a variety of wooden structures available to support the various gross motor movements as well as to make our own chairs.
