“Loczy emphasizes that gross-motor and sensory-motor development are best learned while the infant is freely exploring and manipulating in a safe, carefully designed environment. Spontaneous, self-initiated activities by the infant have an essential value for his physical and mental development in that the pleasure evolving from exploration and mastery is self-reinforcing. Subsequently, the infant becomes intrinsically motivated to learn.” --Magda Gerber in The RIE Manual: For Parents and Professionals. |
The entire first floor is used for TIH (including living room, dining room, kitchen, bathroom, sunroom, and small bedroom).
Our goal is to create a space
that works for both children and adults--a space for living, eating, resting,
freely exploring, and otherwise playing and having a good time. Eliminating safety hazards, potential and providing materials that appropriately foster all areas of
development for each individual child will help to give our environment the
safety and developmentally-appropriate features of a Center in the context of a
livable and cozy home atmosphere.
The three bedrooms and bathroom upstairs are for our family use.
